Taryn Hatcher was born and raised in Delran, New Jersey; her father is a golf aficionado named Jeff Hatcher, and her mother is Connie Hatcher. Kyle, her older brother, is a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy.

The journalist attended Delran High School and a public high school in Delran Township, New Jersey. In 2014, she graduated from Rutgers University, a public land-grant research university in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass media studies, as well as political science and government.
