When Khoshbins was 14, his parents moved him and his four siblings to the United States to escape the conflict in his own country. When they arrived in America, they had to live in a car until their father could find work and a place for them to live.
Manny started working at K-Mart at the age of 16 collecting carts and sweeping floors for $3.15/hour. He took a door-to-door sales job selling sweets and nuts, but quickly realized he could do it himself and earn more money.
So, in his senior year of high school, Khoshbin established his first business, buying food in bulk and selling it door-to-door. However, he was forced to close it after being visited by a health inspector and told he needed a licence that he couldn’t pay.
At the age of 20, his father’s friends advised him to invest all of his assets in a gas station with a 10% down payment. Manny, eager to make money, poured all of his savings into the venture, but soon realized it was a hoax and went bankrupt.
With no money or a job, Khoshbin accepted a position as a loan officer at a mortgage company. Manny decided he wanted a change after only 6 months and earned a real estate license, later launching a mortgage and realty company. He then began to invest in foreclosed and bank-owned properties.
Manny has privately bought and sold over $1 billion in real estate with no outside money some three decades later.
His company, The Khoshbin Company, now controls commercial real estate in seven states totaling more than 2.5 million square feet.
