Who is Katie Couric?

Katherine Anne Couric is a popular American journalist and television host. Katie Couric Media, a multimedia news and production firm, was founded by her. She also has a daily newsletter called Wake Up Call. She was Yahoo’s World News Anchor from 2013 to 2017.

Couric has hosted shows on all three of the United States’ major television networks, and she began her career as an assignment editor for CNN. From 1989 to 2006, she worked for NBC News, CBS News from 2006 to 2011, and ABC News from 2011 to 2014.

In 2021, she served as a guest presenter on the game show Jeopardy!, becoming the first woman to host the show’s flagship American version.

Biography

Katherine Anne Couric was born in Arlington, Virginia, on January 7, 1957. She is the daughter of homemaker Elinor Tullie (née Hene) and John Martin Couric, Jr., a public relations professional and news editor at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the United Press in Washington, D.C. Her mother was Jewish before converting to Presbyterianism before marrying.

Bert Hene and Clara L. Frohsin, Couric’s maternal grandparents, were the children of Jewish emigrants from Germany. Couric’s father hailed from France, England, Scotland, and Germany.

She was raised in a Presbyterian household. In a piece for Today, she traced her patrilineal heritage back to a French orphan who went to the United States in the nineteenth century and became a cotton dealer.

Couric attended Arlington Public Schools, where she was a cheerleader at Jamestown Elementary, Williamsburg Middle School, and Yorktown High School.

She interned at Washington, D.C.’s all-news radio station WAVA as a high school student. She entered as a Delta Delta Delta sorority sister at her father’s alma school, the University of Virginia, in 1975. Couric worked for UVA’s award-winning daily newspaper, The Cavalier Daily, in a variety of capacities.

Couric was chosen as a Senior Resident (SR) of The Lawn, the heart of Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village, during her fourth year at UVA. She earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies in 1979.
