Penny Mordaunt was born on March 4, 1973, in Torquay, Devon, into a family with strong military roots. Because her father was a former paratrooper, she grew up with a strong sense of patriotism and a sense of responsibility.
Mordaunt began her education at Oaklands Roman Catholic Comprehensive School before attending the University of Reading, where she majored in Philosophy and graduated.

Penny Mordaunt made history in May 2023 when she became the first woman to offer the Jewelled Sword of Offering to a British monarch.
The sword was delivered to King Charles III during his coronation at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023, by Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt, who is also the Lord President of the Council. Following a declaration by the archbishop, the sword was briefly clipped to the King’s coronation sword belt.
