Who is Sammie Okposo?

Sammie Okposo was a famous Nigerian gospel singer, producer, and psalmist. He was born on May 30, 1971, in Delta State, Nigeria. He started his music career in 1992 as a soundtrack producer in the Nigerian movie industry. Sammie then switched to making music and released his debut album, “Unconditional Love,” in 2000. The album was a commercial success and launched his career as a gospel singer.

Okposo went on to release several more albums, including “Addicted,” “S. W. A. G (Saved with Amazing Grace),” and “The Statement.” He also collaborated with other gospel artists, such as Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, and Fred Hammond.

Biography

Sammie Okposo was born in Delta State, Nigeria, on May 30, 1971. He started showing an interest in music at a young age and began playing the piano when he was nine years old. He became the official pianist in his local church when he was ten years old.

After graduating from high school, Okposo attended the University of Benin, where he studied accounting. However, he dropped out of college to pursue a career in music.

In 1992, Okposo started his career as a soundtrack producer in the Nigerian movie industry. He worked on several movies, including “Living in Bondage” and “Blood Money.”

Sammie Okposo was married to Ozioma Okposo and they had one child together, a son named Alula.

Cause of Death

According to reports, Okposo died on November 25, 2022, from hypertension. It was reported that he suddenly slumped and died in his house. He was 51 years old as at when he passed away.

Career

In 1992, Okposo started his career in the music industry working as a soundtrack producer in the Nigerian film industry. After that, he shifted his focus to composing music, and in the year 2000, he released his first album, titled Unconditional Love. It was a commercial win for the album, and it gave rise to the smash songs “Welu-Welu” and “Follow You.”

Following the success of Addicted (2004), S.W.A.G (Saved with Amazing Grace) (2007), The Statement (2018), and No More Drama (2020), Okposo went on to record a number of other albums. In addition, he was the recipient of a number of prizes, one of which being the Kora Award for the Best Male Gospel Artiste in Africa in the year 2003.

Okposo was a gospel singer in Nigeria who held a lot of respect and was very influential. He was well-known for both the strength of his voice and his ability to connect with the people in the audience. He was also a talented songwriter, and several of his songs became anthems for individuals who were going through challenging moments in their lives.
