Biography
When World War I broke out, Salzhauer’s grandfather’s family fled Ukraine and the massacres there; his great-grandfather was stabbed to death as the family fled by a Cossack. The rest of the family relocated to Vienna, then to Berlin.
When the Nazis came to power, Salzhauer’s grandfather moved to Israel, where his father was born. Salzhauer’s father moved to New York City in 1958, where he was born in 1972 and raised.

While the rest of his family attended Jewish schools, Salzhauer desired to attend a public high school and compete on the swim team. He was teased about his nose shape, so he left to attend the Frisch School, a Jewish high school.
From 1989 to 1990, he attended Rockland Community College before transferring to Brooklyn College’s BA/MD program. He met his wife, Eva, there. He transferred to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, after two years.
After graduation, he completed his residency in general surgery at Mount Sinai in Miami, then in plastic surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, and in plastic surgery again at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida.
