Who is Christopher Meloni ?

Christopher Peter Meloni is a famous American actor. He is best known for his role as New York Police Department Detective “Elliot Stabler” on the NBC legal drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-2011, 2021-present) and its spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021-present), for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2006.

He also starred in and executive produced the Syfy series Happy! and played inmate Chris Keller on the HBO prison drama Oz (1998-2003). (2017–2019).

Biography

Meloni was born on 2 April, 1961 in Washington, D.C., the youngest of three children to homemaker Cecile (née Chagnon; 1926-2016) and endocrinologist Charles Robert Meloni (1927-2012).

He has an older brother and a younger sister. He has French Canadian ancestors and is a descendant of Matthias Farnsworth. His paternal ancestors are Italian; one of his great-grandfathers was born in Sardinia and another in Velva.

Meloni went to St. Stephen’s School in Alexandria, Virginia, and played quarterback on the football team. He studied acting at the University of Colorado at Boulder before graduating with a history degree in 1983.

Meloni moved to New York after graduation to continue his studies with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and the Center for the Media Arts.

Meloni worked as a construction worker before becoming an actor. In addition, he has worked as a bouncer, bartender, and personal trainer.

Meloni began his career in commercials, short-lived TV series, and minor roles in a number of films. In the 1996 thriller Bound, he played the rambunctious son of a Mafia don. He was the fiancé of Julia Roberts’ character in the 1999 romantic comedy Runaway Bride and played criminal Jimmy Liery in eight episodes of NYPD Blue from 1996 to 1997.

Meloni played the bisexual criminal Chris Keller on the HBO series Oz from 1998 to 2003. In 1999, Law & Order producer Dick Wolf cast Meloni as Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Meloni co-starred on Oz and Law & Order: SVU until Oz was cancelled in 2003. For his role as Elliot Stabler, Meloni was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2006.

In 2005, he appeared in a series of parody public service announcements warning of the threat of cooties on Episode 107 of MTV2’s adult puppet show Wonder Showzen. In Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, he played an uncredited role as a gay hotel desk clerk.

Meloni joined the cast of True Blood during the fifth season in 2012 as Roman, a “powerful, 500-year-old vampire who sits at the head of the Vampire Authority’s table.”

Meloni appeared in two episodes of the FX drama series Pose in 2018, opposite Dominique Jackson.

In 2019, he played Commander Winslow on The Handmaid’s Tale’s third season.
