Amusan started her career as an athlete at a very young age. In 2013, she won a silver medal in the African Youth Championship in Warri.
She also won a gold medal in the 100 meters hurdles at the 2015 African junior athletics championship in Addis Ababa.
The following year, 2016, as a freshman at the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), Tobi was crowned the second athlete for the institution to be named C-USA female athlete of the year. Amusan first broke the record of 12.83s at the El Paso UTEP game which had a time frame of 13s.
She was also a runner-up at the 2016 NCAA outdoor championship in the 100mH. Tobi ran at a speed of 12.79s, following Kentucky Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Tobi’s 2022 World Championship recognition was well deserved. She had an unbeaten 4th place in her finishes. In the events, she hit a record of 12.40s, still retaining her previous record of 0.01s and in the semi-finals, tobi set a new record of 12.12s.
In the early hours of July 25, 2022, Tobi once again hit a new record in the finals, winning at a speed of 12.06s. she became the first Nigerian to win a world title.
